In this new series of paintings, I am aware of just how much the practice of living in the present moment has become an integral part of my creative process.
Walking, hiking, sitting, riding, and even just awakening, my eye is alert to nature’s visual surprises.
When my attention is captured by a moment in time – a moment which brings me to a halt of amazement – I record what I see before me.
Back in the studio, armed with both a physical record as well as the intangible of my visual memory, I begin the practice of unveiling the experience through thin layers of oil paint laid down on prepared paper or canvas.
The end result is a narrative of light, time, moment, and memory.
“When you stop ruminating about what has already happened, when you stop worrying about what might never happen, then you will be in the present moment. Then you will begin to experience joy in life.”
